Why I Started a Brand Nobody Asked For

I’m Adam, founder of BOLT Skin + Shave. I’m 47, a father to three boys (read: many holes in drywall), lover of all things two-wheeled and husband to a woman who’s currently bringing home the bacon so BOLT can continue to bring you the best body shave on the planet. I get asked all the time why I started a brand for body shaving. I mean, it’s hardly an easy path. Manufacturing costs are soaring, digital noise on the socials is on another level, and sharky competitors are constantly circling…waiting for that first sniff of blood in the water. Funny enough, blood in the water was one of the foremost reasons I chose to found BOLT.

Frankly, as a long-time leg shaver, I was tired of shaving with an average product that turned a mole hill moment into a mountain of a task. I wanted to actually enjoy the routine, and after much research, I concluded that would only come with a purpose-built tool born from a brand like BOLT.

If there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I LOATHE mediocrity. Average is just as close to the bottom as it is to the top. And thus, when prototyping and building out our Performance Razor there was one rule that simply would not be broken: WE DON’T CUT CORNERS.

I wanted to create a razor that felt like a tool not a toy. The unboxing experience should be on par with a new iPhone. After all, this isn’t a grocery store afterthought. It needed to be something that would endure long enough to see some patina (seems like everything in our lives with patina carries with it an unabashed connection). Most importantly, it needed to be more than better—it needed to be best.

And it is.

It’s not a plastic carnival prize. It is a perfectly weighted piece of zinc alloy, dripping with functionality and begging to be abused. The weight translates into effortless control and a zero-pressure approach to body shaving. It stays planted on your body like a Porsche on the Nurburgring. What does that feel like? It feels like an extension of your body that just so happens to absolutely annihilate coarse body hair with ease.
