BOLT Performance Razor vs. Gillette Body Razor: An Honest Breakdown
Let’s get the awkward part out of the way: we sell razors, and we’re about to compare ours to Gillette’s. Of course we think we win. But we didn’t build this company to make a “fine, I guess” razor — we built it because body hair isn’t face hair, gravity is undefeated, and most of the industry hands you a face razor with a body-razor sticker on it and calls it innovation.
So no, this isn’t a coin flip. But we’ll show our work, because “trust us” is a marketing department with nothing else to say.
The Quick Answer
If you searched “Gillette Body Razor vs” something — here’s the something. The BOLT Performance Razor is heavier, sharper, better equipped, and built specifically for the terrain south of your jawline. The Gillette is lighter, cheaper up front, and easier to grab at a drugstore at 11pm. One of those is a real advantage. The other is a low bar.
1. Build Quality: Metal & Rubber vs. Plastic & Rubber
The Gillette Body Razor’s handle is plastic with a rubber grip layered over it, and it feels light and disposable — because in spirit, it kind of is. It’s a face razor handle wearing a body-razor costume. It is noticeably smaller and lighter than the BOLT Performance Razor. This doesn't matter as much for shorter strokes, but when shaving legs and or making longer passes on other parts of your body, the Gillette doesn't track anywhere near as well as the BOLT, swerving and curving all over the place.
BOLT’s handle is heavy zinc alloy wrapped in tacky rubber — metal at the core, no plastic in the frame. A denser handle stays exactly where you put it — over a kneecap, an ankle, a ribcage — instead of bouncing and skipping mid-stroke. Less bouncing = fewer nicks. It’s physics wearing a rubber grip.
Both razors use a pivoting head that moves with your body’s contours. Gillette's head rotates as well. Frankly, this feels gimmicky at best. The real difference is what’s driving that head: a light plastic-and-rubber handle that leaves the pivot to do most of the steering, versus a weighted metal-and-rubber handle that stays grounded and lets you control the angle instead of the other way around.
2. Weight: Let Gravity Do the Work
A light razor requires you to supply the pressure, and let's be honest, your hand is hardly precision instrument when you're in a hurry at 6:45am in the shower.
BOLT weighs in at a substantial 95 grams, so the razor does the pressing for you — you guide it, gravity does the rest, and your skin never gets leaned on. Say "adios" to ingrown hairs and skin irritation.
3. Blades: 5 Swedish Steel vs. 2 and a Prayer
Gillette runs 2 blades and a lubricating strip doing its best with limited resources. BOLT runs 5 Swedish steel blades, wrapped in a cartridge infused with aloe vera and vitamin E. With BOLT, you're getting a closer shave with greater efficiency and less effort — plus a soothing moisturizing layer working in real time, not just a one-and-done lube strip along for the ride.
4. Cartridges: 2 Included, One Button
Gillette ships with one cartridge and a swap process that seems designed to test your patience. BOLT ships with two cartridges out of the box, and changing them is a push-of-a-button job — no wiggling tiny plastic tabs before your day can start.
5. The Feel Test
BOLT feels like a tool — substantial, balanced, purposeful. Gillette feels like what it is: light, functional, and forgotten the second you set it down. One feels like a Ferrari. The other feels like a perfectly reasonable Honda Accord. Both get you there. Only one makes the drive feel intentional.
6. Where Each Razor Actually Earns Its Keep
Not all shaving is created equal, and that’s really the heart of this whole comparison.
The Gillette Body Razor is fine for low-ask, occasional jobs — a quick chest trim before a beach trip, a once-a-month touch-up. Short session, forgiving terrain, low stakes. It’ll get through that.
BOLT is built for the heavy lifting: legs, chest, abs, and head, on a real schedule, not just before vacation. Those are bigger surface areas, tougher hair, and trickier contours — and that’s exactly where a light, 2-blade razor starts to struggle and a weighted, 5-blade system starts to shine. If you’re shaving one body part once in a while, Gillette won’t embarrass you. If you’re shaving multiple areas on a regular rotation, you’ll feel the difference in the first pass.

7. The Part Gillette Can’t Touch: The Face + Body System
Here’s the thing nobody tells you when you buy a body razor: you still need a second razor for a proper face shave. Most guys own one razor built for one job, and every other job suffers for it. Face razor tries to double as a body razor? Your legs pay for it. Body razor tries to double as a face razor? Your jawline pays for it.
We fixed that by launching a Face Cartridge that swaps into the exact same BOLT handle you’re already using on your body. Same push-button interface, same weighted grip — just a cartridge with blades tuned and angled for the perfect face shave, cut from Sandvik Swedish steel with a built-in precision trimmer for the edges. One razor, two cartridges. Best shave you've ever had from head to toe, literally.

Gillette doesn’t have an answer to this. Their body razor is a body razor, full stop — so you’re back to owning two razors, two interfaces, two things cluttering the shower shelf. BOLT owners just click and go.
Worth knowing: the face cartridge uses the same weighted handle as the body cartridge, which is a genuine upgrade in control but a small adjustment if you’re used to a feather-light face razor. Give it a couple of shaves to find the touch — most people do.
One More Thing: It Comes in Three Colors
The BOLT Performance Razor isn’t a one-look-fits-all deal. It comes in BOLT Blue, Black Edition, and Lingonberry, and every cartridge — body or face — clicks into any handle color you own. Mix and match. Keep a Black Edition by the shower and a Lingonberry as a backup. Fair warning: your wife or girflriend WILL steal your razor upon first use. It's that good.
The Real Math: Time, Money, and Blood
- Time. Fewer passes, faster swaps. Out of the shower sooner.
- Money. A cheap razor that nicks you and dulls fast isn’t cheap — it’s a subscription to mediocrity. One razor system built to last costs less over time than owning two mediocre razors.
- Blood. The one that actually matters. A razor that bounces, tugs, and requires legit pressure for a close shave is a ticking time bomb for nicks and cuts. Once you get properly acquainted with letting the weight of the BOLT Performance Razor do the work, you'll no longer be donating blood to your shower drain.
Save time. Save money. Save blood. That’s the whole design brief.

So, Which One Should You Buy?
If you're an occasional body shaver who's content with middle of the road, Gillette will do. Nobody’s stopping you.
But if legs, chest, abs, head, groin — or now your face — are in regular rotation, you’re not looking for “it’ll do.” You’re looking for one system built for the job, not two razors bandaged together. BOLT is the clear winner.
Curious on the back story? Founder Adam Barker got tired of choosing between razors too aggressive for the body or too flimsy to survive it, so he built the one that’s neither — and then built it a face cartridge, too.
